Blood Sugar Imbalances

Our blood sugar levels can become unstable if we have had a diet that is high in processed carbohydrates, sugar, alcohol, hot chips and cakes. It can also become unstable if we have experienced long periods of stress, but also as we go into menopause  muscle loss can occur, which can contribute to creating a state of insulin resistance. Having unstable blood sugar levels in peri-menopause can make our symptoms worse due to the adverse effect on our hormones. It can lower our Dhea levels and this can lead to fatigue.

You don’t have to be a diabetic to be effected by blood sugar imbalances. Excess sugar in the blood can be converted to triglycerides in the liver and this also causes inflammation. Having increased inflammation is a stress on our body. For our bodies to be functioning optimally it relies on the ability to utilise the right amount of insulin to maintain healthy blood sugar levels and this helps keep our metabolism functioning normally.

Conditions associated with insulin resistance include; increased risk of type 2 diabetes, metabolic resistance, abnormal cholesterol, heart disease, PCOS,  excess facial hair and adult acne.

During the menopause transition we often gain weight around the waist, this can be a sign that our blood sugars are unstable. High sugar levels can also stimulate the growth of breast tissue and can also influence the development of PCOS.

It is very easy to test our blood sugar levels, and can be an important factor in maintaining our weight, assisting quality sleep and help us sail through the menopause transition.

The Reset Lab tests every client’s blood fasting blood sugars. We educate our clients and design a personalised programme to bring  blood sugar levels back in balance, to help maintain a healthy weight and lower menopause symptoms. It is different for everyone, some may benefit on a lower carb diet or others just need to lower their sugar intake.
